Mohsen Gilani Hails Women’s Footballers for Historic Asian Cup Qualifiers Win Over Indonesia

Pakistan’s women’s football team has breathed new life into their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026 qualifying campaign with a spirited 2-0 triumph over Indonesia on Wednesday, a result hailed by PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani as a milestone moment for the game back home.

“This is a proud day for all of us,” President Gilani declared. “The team’s spirited performance has not only earned a crucial win but also lifted the spirits of football fans across the country. They have made the nation proud.”

Coming off the back of an 8-0 defeat to Chinese Taipei in their opening Group D match, Pakistan needed something special to stay alive in the race—and they delivered early.

Nadia Khan broke the deadlock just eight minutes in, capitalising on hesitant Indonesian defending to give Adeel Rizki’s side the perfect start. The momentum only grew when, in the 19th minute, Suha Hirani coolly converted from the penalty spot, doubling Pakistan’s advantage.

Despite a determined response from Indonesia, the hosts struggled to break down Pakistan’s disciplined defensive shape, giving Mohsen Gilani his first major achievement as PFF President on the field.

The result catapulted Pakistan into second place in Group D with a faint hope of pulling off a miracle, level on points with Indonesia but still three behind leaders Chinese Taipei.

President Gilani was quick to highlight the importance of this achievement and expressed confidence that the team would keep their focus ahead of Saturday’s final group clash against Kyrgyz Republic.

“I have full faith in our players,” Gilani said. “They have shown great potential and resilience. I am optimistic they will continue this momentum and deliver another solid performance in the upcoming match.”

Pakistan’s final fixture kicks off at 1:30 PM Pakistan Standard Time, with the team knowing that another strong display like the one against Indonesia could make this campaign truly historic.

For a side that only days ago was reeling from a heavy loss, yesterday’s result was proof of their belief—and a reminder that Pakistani women’s football is on the rise.
