Pakistan’s First QR-Based Digital ID System Launched

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Tuesday launched a new digital identity system named Khyber Pass, aiming to centralize access to government services through a unified platform.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur officially inaugurated the Khyber Pass digital platform at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s House.

Khyber Pass is Pakistan’s first digital identity platform to use a QR code system integrated with NADRA and other government databases. It allows residents to access personal records and public services online without needing to repeatedly submit documents for verification.

Unified Access to Public Services

The new platform enables citizens to use a single digital account and QR code to access services in healthcare, education, taxation, property, licensing, and more. This system aims to eliminate the need to visit multiple government offices or wait in queues.

According to Chief Minister Gandapur, three services are currently available through the platform, with plans to integrate all provincial services, including the Sehat Card, shortly. He added that digitizing governance is essential for improving transparency, efficiency, and service delivery in line with PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s vision.

The Chief Minister highlighted previous successes in digital reform. He cited savings of nearly Rs. 3 billion through the digitization of challans and a reduction of Rs. 13 billion in Sehat Card costs due to stricter monitoring, despite an increase in usage.

He also mentioned the provincial treasury had increased to Rs. 190 billion since his government assumed office.

Gandapur reiterated the government’s goal of delivering services to citizens at their doorsteps and emphasized that Khyber Pass is a key component of that strategy. He said strengthening the IT department would continue to be a priority to enhance transparency and public trust.
