West Indies Call Emergency Meeting With Legends After Historic Collapse

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an emergency intervention following one of the darkest days in the team’s Test cricket history.

After being humiliated at home, where they were bowled out for just 27 runs—the second-lowest total in Test history—in the final Test against Australia, CWI President Kishore Shallow has turned to the game’s greatest Caribbean batters to help chart a way forward.

With the 3-0 series whitewash still fresh, Shallow has called an urgent meeting of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee, inviting Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara to join discussions alongside committee members Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw.

“To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara,” Shallow said in a statement on Tuesday.

The trio—who between them amassed nearly 28,000 Test runs—are expected to offer more than symbolic wisdom. Their careers correlate with West Indies cricket’s most dominant eras, and their insights are seen as crucial to preventing a deeper decline.

“This engagement is not ceremonial. These are men who helped define our golden eras,” Shallow continued. “Their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development. We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.”

The final Test defeat has triggered widespread criticism, but Shallow stressed the importance of maintaining long-term focus despite the bitter short-term reality.

West Indies is perhaps the one team that has been hit the hardest by the popularity of T20 cricket. While Caribbean sides continue to produce world-class talent in the shortest form of the game, their preparations for Test cricket have suffered, with players showing little interest in donning the whites.

The emergency meeting is expected to result in a series of recommendations aimed at arresting the team’s slide and restoring a culture of resilience and competitiveness. With the likes of Lloyd, Richards, and Lara contributing, the West Indies hierarchy is hoping to reconnect with a legacy of excellence that once made them the envy of world cricket.
