Islamabad’s Excise and Taxation Department is introducing advanced technology aimed at stopping car theft in the city.
According to Excise Director Bilal Azam, special high-tech tags—known as “third number plates”—will soon be installed on vehicles. These tags can be tracked by Safe City cameras even if the car’s original number plate is removed or replaced.
This means that any stolen car can be instantly identified and tracked across the city. “These third number plates cannot be removed or tampered with like regular plates,” Azam explained.
“If a car is stolen, it will still be visible to Safe City cameras, and we’ll know exactly where it is.” In addition, the department is working on a fully digital, paperless vehicle transfer system.
Through mobile apps with facial recognition and biometric verification, car ownership can be changed directly from a smartphone, removing the need for in-person visits or paperwork.
The new system will also alert authorities to cars with unpaid taxes or fake number plates, making it easier to catch offenders in real time.
Azam also shared that the Excise Department collected a record Rs. 23.34 billion in taxes last year, thanks to their growing use of digital tools and online services.

Finally some useful application of technology for the people.
Heard that before .
Despite all out technologies, recovery of stolen/lost/grabbed vehicle is to be made by the police and unfortunately islamabad police perform under two conditions either the order of senior authority or Qaid e Azam, this experienced through Fir# 121/22 Aabpara police station. My grabbed vehicle has not been recovered by 13 IOs of Islamabad police till date.
Apply Quad-e-Azam source.
What if They made it so to enter a car Yoh need face recognition or passwords, adding on to the face thing on the mobile app(s). And will there be 1 app or apps for each brand??
Please do not reproduce what the government authorities say or claim. Everything is possible in Pakistan except for the betterment of the country and its people. Those who are in the business of car thefts are more intelligent and technologically more advanced. It is not just tracking the vehicle, it’s retrieval is what really matters. Hopefully these so-called trackers do not cause an additional financial burden over the general public and hopefully these trackers have not been produced by the Police Foundation.
