The Punjab government has approved the transformation of 1,200 villages into fully equipped “Model Villages” under the Suthra Punjab and Waste to Value initiatives. The decision was finalized in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where detailed briefings were presented on the project’s scope and progress.
Each model village will be equipped with a 24/7 water supply system, a complete underground sewage network, and a waste management treatment plant. The infrastructure plan also includes paved streets, rehabilitated roads, designated children’s parks, and organized tree plantations across the village areas.
The villages will have numbered houses and proper signboards to streamline navigation and address identification. Authorities also presented a solar-powered water and sewage model to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources and ensure sustainability.
According to project officials, development work in 130 villages under the pilot phase has already been completed. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed departments to define a clear timeline for the completion of the remaining villages and called for prioritization based on local community needs.
Emphasizing that the initiative aims to comprehensively improve rural living conditions, the chief minister said that every selected village will receive full infrastructural development under the program.
