Pakistan Fast-Tracks Esports Recognition with National Policy Push

In a decisive step toward formalizing esports as a recognised economic sector, the Government of Pakistan has initiated high-level consultations with international stakeholders to frame its first-ever National Esports Policy.

This development marks a strategic push to nurture the country’s rapidly emerging digital talent and leverage the global gaming boom for youth employment and innovation.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) on Tuesday hosted a key meeting in Islamabad with representatives from the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Esports Federation. The session, chaired by Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima and co-chaired by Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) Chairman Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan, focused on laying the groundwork for both the esports policy and the formation of a Pakistan Esports Federation.

With esports gaining legitimacy worldwide as both a profession and industry, Pakistan’s policymakers are now moving to give its vibrant gaming community institutional support and economic recognition. Minister Shaza Fatima underscored the urgency and potential of the initiative by highlighting the calibre of Pakistani developers already working on global platforms.

“We have immense young talent in game development and digital creativity,” said Shaza. “While training and capacity-building are underway, the real hurdle lies in commercialisation. We’re looking for partners to help our developers access international markets.”

Her remarks came alongside a proposed three-pronged strategy to uplift Pakistan’s esports ecosystem: integrating game-tech education and training in academic curricula, launching funding channels to promote youth-led gaming ventures, and facilitating global partnerships to monetise homegrown titles.

Pakistan’s esports National Policy aims to claim a share of the global revenues, which exceed $1.5 billion annually, through structured pathways for talent development and industry growth.

As the groundwork is laid for a formal esports federation and policy framework, Pakistan’s competitive gamers, developers, and digital entrepreneurs may soon find themselves on a more level playing field with the world—not just in tournaments, but in the global economy.
