Selection Committee Member Reportedly Gets Another PCB Role

Former Test cricketer Asad Shafiq’s responsibilities as a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board have increased, with reports indicating that he has been chosen as the next Director of the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi.

According to Geo Super, his new role will run simultaneously with his current duties within the PCB as a member of the Men’s and Women’s selection committees.

Asad Shafiq’s expanded role will see him oversee the operations and development programmes at the premier facility in Karachi, which serves as a key grooming ground for emerging and domestic talent from the province.

The veteran is expected to use his wealth of experience to elevate the centre’s training standards and contribute to long-term talent identification strategies. His appointment is seen as a continuation of the board’s efforts to place seasoned former cricketers in key developmental roles across the country. The PCB believes a more centralised ecosystem will help develop talent, in line with the vision of the governing body.

Additionally, the PCB has entrusted Azam Khan with the position of Head Coach at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre. Khan brings a strong background in coaching and player development and will work alongside Asad Shafiq in running day-to-day operations and specialised training modules.

The Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre, named after the legendary Pakistan batter, remains a critical component of the PCB’s regional performance infrastructure. With Shafiq at the helm in Karachi, the board hopes to streamline its pipeline from domestic circuits to the national team.

Further announcements regarding staff roles at regional high performance centres are expected in the coming weeks as part of the PCB’s broader revamp of its developmental framework.
