Pakistan Slip in Latest ICC ODI Rankings

Pakistan’s latest ODI outing in the Caribbean has cost them more than just the match; it’s dented their position in the ICC ODI rankings. The International Cricket Council’s updated standings released on Monday show Pakistan dropping a place, with Sri Lanka overtaking them.

Mohammad Rizwan’s men now sit in fifth place with 3,465 points, while Sri Lanka have climbed to fourth place with 4,009 points. The rankings shift comes in the wake of Pakistan’s five-wicket defeat to the West Indies in a rain-hit second ODI at Tarouba on Sunday, a result that levelled the three-match series at 1-1.

West Indies, meanwhile, have gained a place in the latest ICC ODI rankings and now sit 9th in the standings as they look to seal a direct qualification route to the 2027 ODI World Cup. The West Indies Cricket Board was adamant in playing the scheduled ODIs, and their decision seems to be paying dividends already.

The final match between the two is scheduled for tomorrow, with the series on the line.

At the top, India continue to dominate, followed by New Zealand and Australia. South Africa, Afghanistan, and England are also fighting to stay within touching distance of the automatic qualification spots.

Latest ICC ODI Team Rankings:

Pos Team Matches Points Rating
1 India 36 4471 124
2 New Zealand 38 4160 109
3 Australia 32 3473 109
4 Sri Lanka 39 4009 103
5 Pakistan 34 3465 102
6 South Africa 29 2775 96
7 Afghanistan 25 2279 91
8 England 34 3003 88
9 West Indies 34 2662 78
10 Bangladesh 32 2465 77

With the series now hanging in the balance and Pakistan’s ranking under pressure, the third ODI will not just be about winning; it could be about reclaiming lost ground in the standings.
