Pakistan Clinches Sixth World Youth Scrabble Title

Pakistan reaffirmed its status as a Scrabble powerhouse by winning the Team Trophy at the 20th World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) in Kuala Lumpur, marking the country’s sixth triumph at the global event.

The achievement was highlighted by a historic moment as seven‑year‑old Taimoor Waseem, son of celebrated Scrabble grandmaster Waseem Khatri, stunned the field to become the Under‑8 world champion. His remarkable victory drew admiration from international officials and peers, instantly making him one of the youngest names to watch in world Scrabble.

Pakistan’s dominance extended well beyond the youngest category. Ahzam Siddiqui clinched the Under‑16 world crown, while Muhammad Yusuf brought home silver in the Under‑10 age group. In the same Under‑16 division, Bilal Ashar finished runner‑up, further boosting Pakistan’s medal tally.

This year’s championship was the largest in the event’s history, featuring 226 players from 20 countries—underlining the scale of the 24‑member Pakistani contingent’s success against some of the best emerging talent worldwide.

The Pakistani squad will now turn its focus to the Gateway Masters Cup, scheduled for September 5–7 in Kuala Lumpur, as they look to extend their winning streak on the international circuit.

With another team crown and individual brilliance from the youngest of champions, Pakistan continues to set the benchmark in global youth Scrabble.
