The Punjab government has stepped up its crackdown on illegal housing schemes, arresting the owner of a private society in Lahore as part of the ongoing operation.
According to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), the drive has gained momentum following widespread flood damage across the province. DG ACE Sohail Zafar Chattha confirmed that notices have been issued to the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), directing them to provide complete records of housing projects, including those situated along the River Ravi.
Chattha revealed that the arrested developer, allegedly backed by certain LDA officials, had illegally acquired 11,000 kanals of land near Thokar and transferred nearly Rs8 billion to Dubai. The project is now under investigation.
He added that authorities are pursuing measures to recover the embezzled funds and compensate citizens who were deceived by fraudulent housing ventures.

IThese llegal Housing Societies didn’t spring up overnight. They are more than a decade old. How did they go un-noticed. Thousands of houses and buildings were constructed and authorities turned a blind eye. All those who allowed this to happen should also be brought to task, living or dead.
