Punjab Class 9 Computer Science Textbook Author Doesn’t Know What a Mouse Is

The Punjab School Education Department has launched an inquiry after a glaring mistake was found in the Class 9 Computer Science textbook, where the author confused a computer mouse with an actual mouse, translating the word to chooha (rat) in the textbook.

According to the details, the error appeared in Chapter 11 titled Computer Science and Entrepreneurship. Following the discovery, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority (PCTB) has demanded a full explanation along with all related records.

The Director of Curriculum and Compliance has been directed to submit a report within one day.

In computer science, the word mouse refers to an input device used to move a cursor and interact with a computer. Translating it literally as chooha (rat) is incorrect because it changes the meaning from a technical term into a common animal name. Such errors not only confuse students but also undermine the accuracy of technical education.

  • So what else was it supposed to be called ? Enlighten us please . Mouse is also not a technical term but adapted from an animal’s name , why can’t it be called chooha in urdu too ?

    • Its called mouse ، ماؤس in all languages

Same with motherboard , its not translated into ماں تختہ it’s still مدربوڈ

    • Then also translate Monitor as Nigran or Janchna in Urdu. And please do translate Motherboard in Urdu. Mouse is technical word when it comes to something specific topic. It is given technically to that device it doesn’t mean you can term it by animal.

    • Oh retard maharani sahiba mouse literal translation would be “chooha” if you don’t know the context
The mouse in animals context will be called “chooha”
But in computer language context it would be called as “device which is used to annotate things”
Looks like you have lower iq than the person who has done this mistake

  • There are lot more errors in many other books printed by ounjab text board ad well as Oxford University press

    • If you see mistakes in Oxford University Press publications (in Pakistan) may be it is run by Punjab board graduates or they are fed wrong information initially. Like Mouse as Chooha.

      • Shame on the people who feel like Pakistanis can do mistakes but British or Americans can’t make mistakes.

  • Knowledge travel from top to bottom. When the country is run by fake degree holders a computer mouse will be taught as “Chooha”. No surprise

  • So what the mouse should be called in Urdu? It will be “Chooha”.
    The person did nothing wrong.

  • The issue is that the teachers engaged by NCC don’t bother to study instead take materials either from AI sites or from google and even the NCC doesn’t bother to carry out proof reading prior to publishing so it happened.

  • Also the syllabus is lengthy… I think it must be revised and exclude some part of syllabus as well because 9th class students are unable to cover…

  • Author is human & human make mistakes. It is acceptable.U know I m forty years old & didn’t know counting in Urdu.Even when my fault is caught people tease me & pass remarks.

  • They still teaching about Mouse in 9th grade books ??? 💀💀 Mf people are learning about AI and LLM and we still teaching about mouse to our students

  • I think that device i.e mouse is called as chooha in Urdu once because I’ve read in some old Urdu stories. However, it is not in used now

  • A computer pointing device is called a mouse because its creator, Douglas Engelbart, felt that the early prototype, with its cord extending from the back, resembled the small rodent. Engelbart and his team at the Stanford Research Institute developed the first prototype in the early 1960s. The name “mouse” stuck because it was a simple and intuitive name compared to the device’s original technical name, “X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System.”
There’s no particular reason it wasn’t named a “rat.” However, a Remote Access Tool (RAT) is a type of malicious software that allows an attacker to remotely control a computer, so the name “rat” has a negative connotation in the world of computing.
In questioned textbook author tried to show resemblance of computer input device with a living thing which so-called highly EDUCTED MINDS failed to understand and summoned the related staff.

  • Seriously everything I see these days is A.I generated and even the picture for this article is A.I generated

  • Even if the books are in Urdu language, a computer mouse should be called a ‘Mouse’ since our usage of English and Urdu have created a new concept of ‘URDUISH’ (URDU englISH). The word ‘mouse’ is internationally pronounced as a mouse and by no other name. I agree that dumb people don’t have the brains to write a measly book by themselves and use AI translators to copy someone else’s book into another language. ChatGPT is also not smart enough to do the job properly.

  • You and the authorities are wrong because the translation is correct. The computer mouse is not a technical term. It literally means chooha. The device is named as such because it looks like a mouse (chooha). There is no technicality in calling it a mouse.

  • This article has drawn the highest user engagement (mangni), and I’m mostly here to enjoy the comments.

    😂🙏

  • It happens when they just use Google translate, They even don’t tried to use any Ai chat not, that’s because being illiterate they don’t know how to use it.
    Pakky Jahil.

  • The computer device called mouse was originally named as such it looked like a mouse. What is wrong in it the content writer translated it choose.

  • In many countries, technical words are converted to local language like Arabs call Monitor as shasha and CPU or PC as hasoob shaksee….same for printer and keyboards etc.

    So does it matter.

  • Sab commenters nay inhi kitabo say parh ker zindagi banaye hai aur aj bhonk rahay hain.

    Parh letay cambridge ya edexel.

  • So if mouse can be used as an input device to move cursor and to interact with a computer why can’t “Choha” have the same second meaning?

  • No big deal .

Our pm doesn’t know how promises and economy works

Our cm doesn’t know how anything apart from her plastic face works

Our finance minister doesn’t know how economy works

Our govt doesn’t know how bad crypto is

Our banks don’t know how money works.

Our military doesn’t know when to keep their mouths shut
