Higher Fees Planned for Private Parking in Lahore

The city administration has decided to regulate private parking stands across Lahore, with plans to issue licenses and enforce annual renewals for all operators.

According to officials, 242 parking sites have already been identified in the first phase, while more stands will be brought under regulation in the next stage. Licenses will be mandatory for parking operations set up on private plots.

Under the proposed plan, fees at private stands will be higher than government rates. Motorcyclists will be charged Rs30 and cars Rs50, compared with the official rates of Rs10 and Rs30 respectively. The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) expects the scheme to generate significant revenue through license fees.

Authorities say the move will bring an end to the longstanding dispute over legal and illegal parking stands in the provincial capital. MCL has already completed the groundwork and forwarded a draft to the deputy commissioner for approval.

The final decision now rests with the DC, whose approval will allow private parking stands to be formally regularized under the new licensing framework.
