CDA Plans Major Overhaul of Islamabad’s Water System

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is preparing to launch a series of projects aimed at improving water supply and management in the capital, officials said on Friday.

At a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, it was announced that consultants will conduct a detailed survey for the installation of water meters across Islamabad. The move is intended to reduce non-revenue water and minimize waste. Officials stated that the project would begin with feasibility studies and would be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

As part of the initiative, CDA also plans to upgrade all water pumps and motors to energy-efficient systems, reducing power costs. Chairman Randhawa said that the savings would help ease CDA’s financial burden and be reinvested into improving water services.

The briefing further outlined proposals to repair and rehabilitate sewerage lines and fully activate the city’s sewage treatment plant.

Senior CDA officials, including Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz and Member Finance Tahir Naeem, attended the meeting. Transaction advisory services are being arranged to oversee the PPP-based projects, with officials stressing the urgency of moving forward to address Islamabad’s chronic water issues.
