China Eastern Airlines has announced a new route that will become the world’s longest direct flight, connecting Shanghai, China, to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The flight will cover approximately 12,229 miles (19,650 kilometers) and is scheduled to begin on December 4, 2025, operating twice weekly in each direction.
This route marks China Eastern Airlines’ first direct connection to South America, reducing the need for stopovers in the United States or Europe. It is expected to enhance connectivity between Asia and South America, benefiting tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange.
The current record for long-haul flights includes a 19-hour route between Singapore and New York, demonstrating the growing ability of airlines to operate ultra-long-haul services.
Tickets for the Shanghai–Buenos Aires route are now available through China Eastern Airlines’ official channels. Passengers are advised to confirm schedules and policies before booking.
