BCCI Lodges ICC Complaint Against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan Over On-Field Gestures

The off-field tensions between Pakistan and India during the 2025 Asia Cup show no signs of easing, as the BCCI has reportedly lodged a formal complaint with the ICC over provocative gestures made by Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan during their Super Fours clash.

Although the two sides have already faced each other twice in the tournament, the rivalry has extended beyond the pitch. This latest controversy follows the PCB’s earlier complaints to the ICC regarding Suryakumar Yadav’s remarks and India’s refusal to shake hands with the Pakistani team after both encounters.

The BCCI’s grievance stems from the second meeting, where Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf drew attention not just for their on-field performances but for their post-play antics. Farhan’s celebration after reaching his half-century—where he mimed firing shots with his bat as an imaginary gun—was deemed provocative. Meanwhile, Rauf was seen making “downed jet” gestures toward fans near the boundary. Both incidents have since gone viral on social media, fueling further debate.

According to reports, the BCCI submitted its complaint via email on Monday. Should the Pakistani players opt to contest the charges in writing, a formal hearing led by match referee Richie Richardson is expected to follow.

Regardless of the outcome of BCCI’s complaint against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan, the goodwill between the two cricketing giants appears to have all but vanished. The 2025 Asia Cup carries added emotional weight, marking their first encounter since an armed conflict earlier this year. While many anticipated a chilly atmosphere, few could have predicted the extent to which political tensions would seep into the sport.

With a potential third showdown looming, it seems the saga is far from over, and the Asia Cup may yet witness another chapter in this increasingly fraught rivalry.
