Lift Crashes in Private Hospital in Karachi

Five people were injured on Thursday when an elevator collapsed at a private hospital in Karachi’s Nazimabad area.

Rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene and shifted the injured — including women — to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

This is the latest in a string of elevator-related incidents reported in Karachi. On March 24, 2025, a similar accident occurred when the lift of a factory near Shafiq Mor in New Karachi plunged to the ground after its cable snapped due to overloading.

According to police, the incident claimed the life of 35-year-old Younus, a resident of Mirpur. His body was later shifted to a nearby hospital by rescue officials.

A few months earlier, on February 25, 2025, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad narrowly escaped injury when an elevator at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital malfunctioned. The lift, which was carrying over 15 people during the inauguration of the Hemophilia Treatment Center, fell from the fourth floor and got stuck near the first floor for several minutes.

Authorities have since expressed concern over poor maintenance and overloading of elevators in public and private buildings across the city.

  • There are countless lifts operational at the verge of collapse because majority of managers and owners think these are maintenance free.
Unless owners drag into court rooms no law or maintenance schedule will going to fix this in stubborn nature society.
