The Motorway Police on Saturday confirmed that a stretch of the Lyari Expressway, from the Garden Interchange to Mauripur, has been temporarily shut down for all traffic. At the same time, restoration and development work is carried out by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO).
Officials said traffic coming from Sohrab Goth, Hassan Square, and the Mauripur area will be redirected into the city via the Garden interchange. Citizens and commuters have been advised to allow extra time for travel, avoid the closed corridor, and use alternate routes.
The FWO’s work appears to be part of a wider infrastructure upgrade along the Expressway, aimed at improving road safety, drainage, and traffic flow. While the exact nature of the restoration was not disclosed, the closure notice stressed that the section is “closed for all types of traffic” until the repairs are completed.
Authorities have urged motorists to stay updated through the Motorway Police’s official social media channels for any further changes or emergency updates. Failure to follow the diversion could result in congestion and delays, especially during peak hours in Karachi’s already congested road network.
