The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is officially gearing up for its biggest shake-up yet, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided on the two new teams and their cities that will make their debut in the upcoming edition.
According to ARY News, the PCB has identified Gilgit and Faisalabad as the leading candidates for the expansion slots. Gilgit, representing Pakistan’s northern region, and Faisalabad, a powerhouse cricketing hub long overdue for PSL representation, are now expected to become part of the league’s next chapter.
This development follows the PCB’s earlier shortlist of six possible cities: Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, and Rawalpindi. The final decision signals a clear intent to widen the league’s geographic footprint and provide new regions with a platform in mainstream franchise cricket.
The PCB has already completed the independent valuation process for existing PSL teams and commercial properties, a crucial step before introducing new franchises into the ecosystem. With financial assessments finalized, the board is preparing for one of the largest structural transitions in PSL history.
The bidding process for the two new PSL teams is expected to begin shortly, marking the start of the tender phase for the sale of the new franchises. This aligns with earlier remarks by PSL CEO Salman Naseer, who confirmed during an October press briefing at National Bank Stadium that the league would add two new sides.
With two new teams set to join, fans can anticipate expanded competitiveness, fresh rivalries, and greater regional representation, all of which are expected to enhance the PSL’s entertainment value and national appeal.
Pakistan’s premier cricket brand is now poised to grow further with the addition of Gilgit and Faisalabad.
