Jacques Kallis Believes This Team Will Win The T20 World Cup

South Africa legend Jacques Kallis says the T20 World Cup 2026 comes at the perfect time for the Proteas, who he believes have a strong chance of finally winning their first title.

The tournament is to begin on 7 February next year, only days after the conclusion of the SA20, South Africa’s flagship domestic T20 league.

Kallis said the scheduling of the SA20 will serve as ideal preparation, as most of South Africa’s key players will be in action right up until the start of the global event.

He believes the high-intensity match practice will help the Proteas enter the T20 World Cup 2026 with momentum and confidence.

The former all-rounder noted that senior figures such as Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock and captain Aiden Markram will be key to South Africa’s push for the trophy. He also praised Marco Jansen, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year with both bat and ball.

Kallis highlighted Jansen’s Player-of-the-Match display against India in Guwahati and his seven wickets in the previous T20 World Cup as evidence of his rapid development.

“He’s always had the talent, and now he has found the right balance in his game,” Kallis said, describing Jansen as a “premium all-rounder.”

It is worth noting that South Africa will face New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada and the UAE in the group stage for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Their opening match is against Canada, set for 9 February in Ahmedabad.
