The federal government has announced a public holiday for federal offices in Islamabad Capital Territory on Friday, December 26, following a reversal of an earlier decision.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on December 25, all federal government offices, including the Pakistan Secretariat and other federal establishments located within the Islamabad Capital Territory, will remain closed on December 26.
The notification supersedes a clarification issued a day earlier. The order states that essential services, including hospitals, banks, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, Capital Development Authority, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO and SNGPL, will continue to function.
A day earlier, on December 24, the Cabinet Division had issued a clarification declaring December 26 a working day for the federal government and all federal government institutions. The clarification had overturned expectations of a holiday following December 25.
The latest notification nullifies that clarification and formally declares December 26 a closed holiday for federal offices in the capital. The Cabinet Division directed that the notification be given wide publicity through print and electronic media.
