The Capital Development Authority plans to construct the final stretch of Margalla Avenue to connect it with the Peshawar Motorway M-1.
The authority has issued a tender to award the contract for building a 2.7 kilometer road segment. The project also includes the construction of an interchange on GT Road. CDA officials said they will open technical bids on January 23 and expect to complete the project within eight months once construction begins.
At the Sangjani Grid Station end, the National Highway Authority will build a separate 2.5 kilometer section within Rawalpindi’s limits. The NHA has already awarded the contract for this portion to the National Logistics Cell at a cost of Rs. 4.1 billion.
CDA will construct a three lane dual carriageway with two lane service roads and a cloverleaf interchange. According to CDA documents, Margalla Avenue will deliver its full benefit only after it connects directly to the motorway.
The completed corridor will serve as an alternative route for commuters traveling between Islamabad and GT Road N-5. Separately, CDA plans to invite bids for an underpass near Islamabad Club on Murree Road after finalizing its design.
The authority reported that it completed 18 development projects last year, including several major road schemes across the capital.
