Karachi Records Coldest Night of Winter Season

Residents of the port city experienced the coldest night of the ongoing winter season as temperatures dipped sharply across Karachi, bringing chilly conditions to large parts of Sindh.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded the lowest temperature in Karachi at six degrees Celsius in the Jinnah Terminal area, while the city’s average minimum remained low across multiple localities.

According to the Met Office, cold and dry weather will continue to prevail in most districts of Sindh over the next two days. The department said westerly winds are expected to affect the upper parts of the country from January 18 to January 20, which could influence weather conditions in Sindh as well.

The PMD also indicated a possibility of rain in Karachi and other parts of the province under the influence of the approaching weather system. After the system moves away, another cold spell may affect Sindh, including Karachi.

The Met Office noted that the country recorded 34 percent below-average rainfall in December 2025, contributing to the persistence of dry and cold conditions.

Meanwhile, moderate to dense fog is likely to continue in several districts, including Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Larkana, Tando Jam, and Mohenjodaro, which may affect visibility during night and early morning hours.

Other parts of Sindh also reported notably cold conditions, with several cities recording near-freezing temperatures overnight.
