Internet services in Pakistan will likely be disrupted on January 15 due to maintenance work scheduled for one of the country’s submarine cables.
“An unavoidable maintenance activity is planned on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15, 2026, at around 2 PM, which can last up to 8 hours,” Nayatel informed its customers in an email today.
“This may cause internet slowness across Pakistan. Inconvenience is regretted,” it added. The company did not mention the exact location of any fault that might have persisted on any one of the submarine cables.
If it happens, this will be the second time in two weeks that internet services have degraded. On 1st January 2026, internet outages were first reported due to a problem in one of Pakistan’s upstream providers. During this time, the internet was dirupted across the country for more than two days.

Only on 15 January? The net is permanently down here. The submarine cable is always damaged. PTA and WAPDA (also switches off electricity daily in the name of maintenance) are the two worst departments in the country causing continuous inconvenience to the public.

I got shocked when I read the headline “Internet in Pakistan Will Go Down on 15 January” as I thought, the entire country will suffer from the internet services on 15 Jan, but when I read the complete report, I found out its only Nayatel’s services will be disrupted for 8 years. So, please do not give us shocks with big headlines. If you want us to read full reports then be more creative.
