Australia Announces Squad for Pakistan T20I Series

Australia have announced a 17-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Pakistan ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

All three matches will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore over four days, beginning on January 29. The remaining matches are scheduled for January 31 and February 1.

The series overlaps with the final stages of Australia’s domestic T20 competition, the Big Bash League (BBL). Players still involved in the latter stages of the BBL will join the national squad only after completing their franchise commitments.

Mitchell Marsh has been named captain for the series. Several senior players, including Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Josh Inglis, are part of the squad after recently featuring in Australia’s Ashes series against England.

However, several high-profile players will miss the tour. Nathan Ellis, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, and Pat Cummins will not travel to Pakistan as selectors manage workloads and allow players returning from injury additional time to regain full fitness.

To cover the absences, selectors have included Sean Abbott, Mahli Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mitch Owen, Josh Philippe, and Matthew Renshaw.

Young fast bowler Mahli Beardman and emerging all-rounder Jack Edwards have earned call-ups after strong breakout performances in the Big Bash League. Both players remain uncapped at the international level, despite having been involved in Australian squads earlier in the summer.

Australia’s Chair of Selectors, George Bailey, said the series provides an important opportunity for emerging players.

“The series is a great opportunity for those on the brink of selection and some young players we rate highly to gain valuable experience with the World Cup group in Pakistan,” Bailey said.

This tour will mark Australia’s third visit to Pakistan since March–April 2022, when they toured for a historic Test series followed by an ODI series and a one-off T20I. Australia also played three matches of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
