Sub-Zero Temperatures Recorded After Season’s First Snowfall

The winter season’s first snowfall has pushed temperatures sharply downward in Quetta and several areas of northern Balochistan, while snow continues to fall in Chaman and nearby regions.

Reports from the area say snowfall is ongoing in Khojak Top, Khwaja Imran, Toba Achakzai, Qila Abdullah, Gulistan, Jangal Pir Alizai, Shela Bagh, and Mezai Adda. In Chaman, the mercury has dipped below freezing, adding to the severity of the cold spell.

The Meteorological Department reported that Chaman’s temperature has dropped to -1°C. Even colder conditions were recorded in surrounding high-altitude locations, with -3°C in Khojak Top and Khwaja Imran, while Toba Achakzai saw temperatures fall further to -4°C.

Snow buildup has also been significant. Accumulation is estimated at around 1.5 feet in Toba Achakzai, nearly one foot in Khojak Top, and roughly ten inches in Chaman.

Elsewhere, Qila Saifullah and its adjoining areas have seen rainfall that has intensified the chill, while Kan Mehtarzai and Muslim Bagh have reported intermittent snowfall. Weather officials say rain and snowfall in Qila Saifullah are expected to persist until the evening.

Meanwhile, Mastung recorded its first snowfall of the winter, with the city turning white and temperatures dropping noticeably. Rain in Kharan, Panjgur, and surrounding areas has also contributed to a colder start to the season across parts of the province.
