Islamabad United Appoint Legendary New Zealand Cricketer as Assistant Coach

Islamabad United have strengthened their backroom staff ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season by appointing Jacob Oram as the franchise’s new assistant coach.

The move comes shortly after Islamabad United confirmed Luke Ronchi as their head coach, putting two well-known New Zealand names at the center of the team’s coaching setup for the upcoming season.

Ronchi, a former international wicketkeeper-batsman, and was one of United’s biggest match-winners during the 2018 PSL campaign, where he helped Islamabad clinched their second PSL title.

Jacob Oram is a former New Zealand international best known as a reliable pace-bowling all-rounder who brought balance to the side with his seam bowling and clean hitting. He has remained involved in cricket through coaching and franchise roles in recent years, and Islamabad United will be hoping his experience adds more depth to their planning, player management, and match-day execution.

Islamabad aren’t the only team making major appointments ahead of the new season.

New franchise Hyderabad have brought in cricket analyst Freddie Wilde as team analyst, with Jason Gillespie set to lead as head coach. The coaching group also includes Craig White and Grant Bradburn as assistant coaches.

Meanwhile, newly introduced franchise Sialkot Stallionz have announced Tim Paine as their head coach, adding another high-profile international name to PSL 11’s growing list of marquee staff signings.

With coaching units now taking shape across the league, attention is expected to shift to squad planning as PSL 11 preparations ramp up.
