Two Pakistani Astronauts Selected for China Space Station Mission

Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has completed the second phase of astronaut selection under the country’s Human Spaceflight Program, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Saturday.

After initial screening in Pakistan, two candidates advanced following comprehensive medical, psychological, and aptitude tests conducted at China’s Astronauts Centre (ACC) under international human spaceflight standards.

The shortlisted candidates will now undergo six months of advanced training at the ACC. One candidate will later be selected for a mission aboard the Chinese Space Station, planned for October or November 2026.

The collaboration follows the Astronaut Cooperation Agreement signed in February 2025 under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan became the first foreign partner in China’s astronaut program, highlighting growing space cooperation between the two countries.

SUPARCO officials have also indicated that Pakistan’s space roadmap includes participation in a Moon-related mission planned for 2026 with Chinese support.
