Islamabad United Drop Controversial Foreign Player After PSL 11 Auction

Islamabad United have released West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph less than a day after announcing his signing for the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season.

The franchise had confirmed his selection at the auction, but the decision was quickly reversed. Within hours of the announcement, Islamabad United deleted their initial social media post amid widespread fan backlash, making the turnaround both swift and unexpected.

Shamar Joseph was picked during the PSL 11 player auction on February 11, 2026, for a reported Rs. 1.10 crore. His signing was viewed as part of Islamabad United’s plan to strengthen their pace attack and add international experience to the bowling lineup ahead of the new season.

Despite confirming the signing, the franchise removed its announcement post shortly afterward and has not provided a detailed public explanation beyond taking down the social media confirmation.

The release comes amid serious allegations made against Joseph last year. In June 2025, reports in Guyana stated that he had been accused of rape, sexual assault, harassment, and unwanted advances by at least 11 women, including a teenage relative.

The allegations were covered by regional media outlets in the Caribbean and later reported internationally. However, none of the allegations have resulted in formal criminal charges to date.

On the field, Joseph rose to international prominence with his high-pace performances against Australia, particularly during the Test match at the Gabba, where he bowled at express speeds and claimed crucial wickets.

His rapid rise in international cricket attracted attention from T20 franchises worldwide, ultimately leading to his selection in the PSL auction.

Islamabad United, meanwhile, were among the most active teams in PSL 11 under the league’s first full auction-based system. The franchise retained key players such as Shadab Khan, Salman Irshad, and Andries Gous, while also securing major additions including Faheem Ashraf for a reported Rs. 8.50 crore, one of the highest bids of the auction.
