Pakistan is preparing to make changes to its lineup for their final group-stage match against Namibia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground. A win would secure Pakistan’s place in the Super Eight stage. Even a rain-affected result would be enough for the 2009 champions to advance.
According to sources, the team management has been disappointed with the recent performances of some senior players. Discussions are underway about possibly resting key figures, including Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, for the Namibia match.
Between two and three changes to the playing XI are being considered. The focus is on using the team’s bench strength to bring fresh energy into the side.
Team officials have already started planning for the must-win match. However, players were given a rest day on Monday, according to a team spokesperson.
The potential changes come after Pakistan’s disappointing performance against India on Sunday.
After choosing to bowl first on a spin-friendly pitch, Pakistan’s plan did not work as expected. A quick half-century from Ishan Kishan helped India post 175 for five.
Pakistan’s spin attack struggled. Abrar Ahmed conceded 38 runs in three overs, while Shadab Khan gave away 17 runs in his only over. Neither spinner took a wicket. Captain Salman Ali Agha later described the performance as an “off-day.” Shaheen Afridi was the most effective bowler, finishing with one for 31 in two overs.
Chasing 176, Pakistan’s batting lineup collapsed under pressure. The team was bowled out for 114 in 18 overs after a poor start to the innings.
