Police have issued a travel advisory and finalized security and traffic arrangements ahead of Eid ul Fitr, as authorities expect a large number of tourists to visit the hill station.

District Police Officer Murree Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer said around 400,000 to 500,000 tourists are expected during the holidays.

He said 28,688 vehicles entered Murree on the first day of Eid last year, followed by 51,380, 57,855 and 35,119 vehicles over the next three days. The court-prescribed daily limit is 8,000 vehicles, which can increase to around 12,000 during peak days.

Police have prepared a traffic management plan to handle the expected rush. The DPO advised tourists to download the ‘Safe Tourism Murree’ mobile application before travelling, saying it provides access to emergency services, including Police, Rescue 1122, Traffic Police and Motorway Police.

He said the application also includes a virtual women police station, direct contact with the DPO through WhatsApp and information about hotels, tourist spots and weather updates.

Referring to the weather forecast, he said rain and thunderstorms are expected in Murree during Eid and advised tourists to drive carefully and follow traffic rules. He said tourists can contact emergency services through helpline 15 or the mobile application.
