Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Gets a Gaming Variant With a Cooling Fan

Huawei has unveiled the Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition, a new version of its flagship smartphone that adds an active cooling fan to improve performance during extended usage, which should be highly useful for gamers.

Design and Display

The Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition features a redesigned camera module that integrates a small cooling fan. The circular camera bump is larger than the standard model and includes more than 1,200 ventilation holes along the lower half.

Inside the module, thermal bending fins are used to direct airflow more effectively. The fan operates dynamically, increasing speed during heavy tasks and slowing down during lighter use to reduce noise.

The device retains its premium metal construction and is protected by second-generation Kunlun glass. The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition is offered in two colors: Black and Gold.

It features a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with LTPO support, offering a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. The panel also includes 144Hz PWM dimming, a 300Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR peak brightness of up to 8,000 nits.

Internals and Software

Huawei’s Kirin 9030 Pro chipset powers the smartphone and runs HarmonyOS 6. Huawei has also highlighted features such as satellite messaging and improved network performance.

Cameras

The Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition includes a 50MP main camera with a variable aperture. It is paired with a 40MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP telephoto camera that supports macro photography.

On the front, the device features a 13MP ultrawide camera along with a 3D depth sensor.

Battery and Pricing

The device is equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery and supports 100W wired charging.

It comes with 16GB of RAM as standard. Pricing in China starts at $1235 for the 512GB model and goes up to $1380 for the 1TB variant.
