The Islamabad Transport Authority and local transporters have agreed not to increase intra-city fares despite recent changes in petroleum prices.
The decision was taken during a meeting between the capital administration and transport representatives, where both sides agreed to maintain existing fare levels on public transport routes.
The administration warned that strict legal action will be taken against drivers and vehicle owners found overcharging passengers. Such violations will lead to cases being registered and offenders being handed over to the police.
Transport bodies, including the Islamabad Wagon Owners and Drivers Welfare Association, also issued instructions to their members to comply with official fare rates.
Authorities confirmed that fares for Hi-ace vans operating within the city will remain unchanged. The administration urged citizens to report overcharging by noting the vehicle number and lodging complaints with the control room.
A separate meeting of transporters, chaired by association president Kabir Ahmed Kiani, also endorsed the decision to maintain fares across 23 intra-city routes in Islamabad.
