RawalPindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan has openly addressed his team’s struggles after their fifth consecutive defeat in PSL 11, following a 61-run loss to Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium.
The defeat kept the debut side at the bottom of the standings, with no wins so far.
Speaking after the match, Rizwan admitted that both the team and his own performances have not been up to the mark and that changes are needed.
“We certainly recognize the need for change; it’s clear that adjustments are required to get us back on track,” Rizwan said. “We’ve had our share of struggles, but we are actively working to overcome them.”
RawalPindiz have faced mixed issues this season. They lost three matches despite posting totals above 180, while in two games their batting unit failed to put up a defendable score.
The team made changes for their Karachi leg opener, bringing in pacer Ben Sears to improve death bowling and adding experienced opener Usman Khawaja to strengthen the batting lineup. However, the changes did not deliver the desired results.
“There have been ups and downs, and we are constantly trying to fix those gaps,” Rizwan said.
Reflecting on the match, Rizwan said the bowling unit had initially kept Quetta in check but lost control in the later stages.
“On this pitch, we felt we were restricting them well to around 140 or 150, but Hasan Nawaz and Jahandad deserve a lot of credit, they took the score from 150 to 180,” he said.
Rizwan also spoke about his own form, which has come under pressure. He has scored 83 runs in five innings at an average of 16.60 and a strike rate of 123.88.
“I know how important it is to maintain self-belief. I realize that if I don’t lead from the front, the team will struggle,” he said.
“It is a tough period right now, but I am committed to fighting through it.”
Despite the poor start, Rizwan remains hopeful about a turnaround, with five matches still left in the league stage.
“We need to play with courage. Ups and downs are part of the game. Five matches remain; if we play well, we might qualify for the playoffs,” he said.
