Construction work on the Faisalabad Metro Mass Transit Project has officially started, with development activity currently underway on Jhang Road.
Authorities confirmed that work on the project began on May 10, while Faisalabad Traffic Police has also issued a traffic advisory and deployed personnel to manage traffic flow during the construction phase.
According to project details shared earlier by Punjab government officials, the Orange Line corridor will stretch 20.3 kilometres from Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahir Pura near Faisalabad International Airport on Jhang Road.
The project will include 21 metro stations, two depots, and seven u-turns, while 27 metro buses and two trams are planned for operations on the route. Officials said the project is expected to cost around Rs. 79 billion and will be completed within one and a half years.
Punjab authorities have also directed departments including WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, Municipal Corporation, PTCL, and Traffic Police to complete shifting of utility services and support infrastructure work to avoid delays.
Traffic Police has been instructed to regularly announce alternative traffic routes for commuters during construction activity. Authorities said measures including installation of lighting, signboards, and continuous water sprinkling will also be implemented to reduce inconvenience for residents during the project period.
