The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has informed Pakistan to increase the assistance provided under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) by Rs. 5,500.
According to details shared during ongoing negotiations between the IMF and Pakistani authorities, the IMF has suggested that the current quarterly BISP Kafalat payment of Rs. 14,500 be increased to Rs. 20,000 to help bear the impact of inflation and rising living costs for low-income families.
So far, this remains a proposal under discussion. Government officials and IMF representatives are currently engaged in meetings with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other departments as part of the ongoing program assessment.
Today, discussions focused on finalizing the proposed BISP increase in social protection spending as well as reviewing tax policy, tax exemptions, and broader fiscal reforms.
Further talks are expected to determine whether the proposed revised stipend level will be approved, reduced, or adjusted as part of the overall IMF program framework.
If BISP is being controlled by IMF let’s quit this country.
