Pakistan U20 Football Team Misses AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers

Pakistan’s young footballers have once again been denied the chance to compete in a major international event, raising fresh concerns about the lack of long-term planning within the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).

The Asian Football Confederation announced the draw for the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers on Thursday, but Pakistan was not included among the participating teams.

According to a PFF spokesperson, the federation decided not to send the national U20 team to the qualifiers because of a lack of funds. The spokesperson said the PFF had informed the AFC about its decision in April.

However, Pakistan’s absence only came under wider attention after the official draw was released without the country’s name among the competing nations.

The AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers are scheduled to be held in August and September this year. The final tournament will be hosted by China in 2027.

This is the third consecutive time Pakistan will miss an AFC event at this age-group level. The decision has deprived young footballers of another important international platform to gain experience, develop their skills and showcase their talent.

The development has drawn criticism within football circles, where questions are being raised over why the federation has failed to arrange even basic funding for youth national teams.

Pakistan football has faced years of administrative instability, FIFA suspensions, uncertainty and poor planning. Expectations had increased after elections were held last year, but many believe the situation has still not improved in any meaningful way.
