FBR Technical Briefing to Be Held After Budget Presentation on Friday

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will hold a technical briefing on the 2026-27 federal budget on Friday after its is unveiled in the Parliament, sources informed ProPakistani a short while ago.

This will allow journalists and stakeholders to receive detailed explanations of tax proposals and fiscal measures announced in the Finance Bill 2026.

The session marks a return to the traditional post-budget practice that was disrupted last year, when the FBR did not conduct the customary technical briefing before the finance minister’s post-budget press conference.

The absence of the briefing in 2025 triggered strong criticism from journalists, who staged a walkout from the post-budget media interaction and accused the authorities of withholding details about proposed tax measures.

The protest prompted the government to assure the media that a separate technical session would be arranged.

At the time, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial said the government had decided to replace the traditional technical session with an essential briefing by the finance minister. This drew widespread criticism from the press people.

The upcoming briefing is expected to provide a detailed breakdown of revenue measures, tax amendments, enforcement proposals, and other key provisions contained in the Budget 2026-27 documents.

Technical briefings have historically served as an important forum for explaining complex tax proposals and helping journalists accurately report the changes introduced through the Finance Bill each year.
