KP Police Appoints Two Women as DPOs for First Time

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has appointed two women as district police officers for the first time in its history.

According to a notification issued by the Central Police Office, Sonia Shamroz has been posted as DPO Nowshera, while Resham Jahangir has been appointed DPO Lower Chitral.

The appointments come as the province faces serious law and order challenges and reflect growing confidence in women officers’ leadership and professional abilities.

Sonia Shamroz was the second female ASP posted in KP after Anoosh Masood Chaudhry. Both joined the Police Service of Pakistan through the CSS examination and selected PSP as their first choice.

Anoosh Masood Chaudhry belonged to the 40th Common Training Programme, while Sonia Shamroz was part of the 41st CTP. Helena Rizwan Tareen, from the 23rd CTP, was the first woman officer to join the PSP.

Other women officers are also serving in key positions. Ayesha Gul is currently SSP Investigation Peshawar, while Maria Mustafa is SP Investigation Mardan.

Several women recruited by the provincial police have also risen to the rank of SP, including Shazia Shahid, Rozia Altaf, Anila Naz, Shahzadi Noshad, Ismat Khattak, Hameeda, and others.

The notification also announced other postings. Riffatullah has been posted as DPO Charsadda, Furqan Bilal as DPO Bannu, Ikramullah as DPO Shangla, and Talal Ahmad Shah as DPO Lower Dir.

Waqas Khan has been posted as AIG Logistics, while Yasir Afridi will proceed on a Senior Management Course. Ahmad Shah has been appointed AIG Establishment, replacing Sonia Shamroz.

Women officers have gradually taken on more operational roles in KP Police. In recent years, policewomen have served as additional SHOs in Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, Kurram, and other districts. One woman officer was also briefly posted as SHO Gulberg in Peshawar.

In Khyber district, Mehek Pervez Masih served as Additional SHO Landikotal, Naila Jabbar as Additional SHO Ali Masjid, Fatima Sameen Jan as Additional SHO Bara, and Nusrat Bibi as Additional SHO Jamrud. Shanzeh was appointed Additional Line Officer in Bara.
