Sad But True: Windows 7 is Still More Popular Than Windows 10

Ever since the launch of Windows 10, the OS was expected to surpass Windows 7 in terms of users. It was off to a rough start with the automatic update issue and other hitches.

The rivalry between the two operating systems continues to build, and in the latest report by StatCounter (analyst firm), Windows 7 is still the king amongst Microsoft operating systems. However, the race for the top position between Windows 7 and 10 is a close one.

Back in October 2017, it appeared that Windows 10 would surpass Windows 7 by November. Remarkably, the forecast proved to be wrong, but the gap between them got narrower over time. In December, it was projected that Windows 10 would ultimately claim the top position but to everyone’s surprise, it did not happen either.

By The Numbers

It is pertinent to state that there is hardly any difference between the two operating systems in terms of the overall userbase. Windows 7 still dominates the Windows ecosystem, followed closely by Windows 10.

In December 2017, Windows 10 users grew by as much as 0.33% in comparison to Windows 7 which fell by 0.62%. As a result, Windows 7 just managed to pass Windows 10 with a 41.89% share in comparison to Windows 10’s 41.69%.

Despite previous predictions not coming true, Windows 10 is still expected to overtake Windows 7 in the upcoming months.

Windows OS Marketshare

Here’s how the other Windows iterations stack up against Windows 10 and Windows 7:

  • Windows 7 – 41.89% (decreased 0.62%)
  • Windows 10 – 41.69% (grew 0.33%)
  • Windows 8.1 – 9.16% (up 0.13%)
  • Windows XP – 3.6% (down 0.06%)
  • Windows 8 – 2.86% (fell 0.19%)
  • Windows Vista – 0.7% (increased 0.03%)

Windows Vista is still alive and so is Windows XP, but the latter is an actually a good operating system compared to the former. None of the Windows operating systems changed much in terms of users except for Windows 7 and 10.

  • .Windows 7 is the best. I disn’t upgrade to Windows 10 even when it was free. And I had made a good decision

    • Without even using windows 10,lol…
Try it, but don’t go for those DVDs which has beta builds, download the latest from Microsoft site.

  • I used licensed win7 for 5 years, found absolutely no problem at all. No hanging, no re installing, no crash, nothing. I started using win10, 4 months back and have no problem at all so far. To me, win10 seems, not much, but better than 7 in terms of user interface and features.

    • Yep, especially schools because the staff isn’t bothered to run the latest OS rather they ll use already preinstalled one from the market and that one is mostly Vista/7 or XP.

  • Vista ain’t bad tbh (as long as you install updates)

from those stats, 10 is so close to domination just give it a 1-3 month duration

  • Still rocking WINXP and WIN7 and lovin’ it!!!

WIN10 is spyware and made for touch-interface-happy kids, not keyboard/mouse wielding professionals.
