Foreign Office Introduces Digital Attestation of Documents Using QR Codes

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) is switching from manual to the digital attestation of documents to improve the consular services.

The Ministry has launched the digital Quick Response (QR) code system for attesting the documents at the MoFA headquarters. The new system will be launched gradually at the camp offices.

The QR code system will help the ministry store a small amount of data efficiently. According to the FO press release, the new system is user-friendly and it will enable efficient and quick attestation of papers. This system will also help verify the attestation of documents via the QR code scanner.

Apart from the speedy and efficient attestation, the new system can help curb the malpractice of forged attestation. Moreover, digital attestation will create a paperless system and will ensure that the data is digitally backed up.

It is pertinent to mention here that overseas Pakistanis frequently send their wills, power of attorney etc. after getting them attested from camp offices in embassies and high commissions to Pakistan.

Furthermore, FO also attests marriage certificates and educational documents. The attestation process is quite tedious and the shift to a digital system is going to solve many problems.
