Fawad Chaudhry Plans to Replace Debit Cards With a Mobile Payment System

Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has announced that his next task after the lunar calendar will be to replace debit cards with a mobile phone payment system.

“After the successful launch of the lunar calendar, my next challenge is to replace credit cards and debit cards with mobile phone payments,” the minister said in a tweet on Monday morning, adding that it was necessary for the technological advancement of the country.

Fawad further said,

In the next few months you will be able to make all your payments through your mobile from your bus ticket to purchasing a new car.

The announcement came just a day after he launched Pakistan’s first official moonsighting website and Islamic Calendar on Sunday.

The website named, ‘Moon Sighting Pakistan’ not only contains a day-to-day five-year Islamic calendar next to the dates from Georgian calendar but it also lets people check the position of the moon.

It also includes scientifically determined dates for all significant Islamic festivals/days for the ongoing and coming years.

  • It will be a great step in Pakistan but only when there will be no extra charges for using this facility. I have mobile banking account and they charge service fee if we withdraw any amount from our own mobile account even it is Rs. 1000/-.
Therefore, if there will be a service fee / charges then there is no chance to success because nobody will like to pay extra amount.

    • I don’t think so there will be any service fee. Its only the replacement of DC and CC with mobile payment like samsung pay, apple pay or google pay. Mobile banking is something, bank is providing services to you.

  • Ruyat e Hilal Committee ke baad ab banks ki baari aye hai…
    RIP all banks…
    LoL

  • Providing such facilities is good but debit card and credit card have their own benefits. ..how can 1 depend totally on mobiles. …

  • we already have easypasia, jazz cash , hbl connect , mcb lite wallet…so what’s new will be offered in new payment system???

also why not allow alipay or wechat pay to operate in pakistan??
