AMD announced its next-gen Navi based Radeon 5700 graphics cards just last month. The news was slightly underwhelming because the prices didn’t make them an obvious alternative to Nvidia’s rival chips.
But in the “spirit of competition”, AMD has dropped the prices of the GPUs just two days before their launch.
If it’s not obvious from the get-go, this is in response to Nvidia’s recent surprise launch of the RTX Super cards yesterday.

The standard RX 5700, with 36 compute units and clock speeds of up to 1.7 GHz, was originally announced for $379, but will instead hit the shelves at $349.
The Radeon 5700 XT, previously listed for $450, will now cost $400. (There’s also a $500 Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition that’ll retail for $450.)
That’s enough to keep them both cheaper than the $499 RTX 2070 Super. We will have to wait for the performance reviews to find out whether it’s enough to be relevant.
Price Comparison With Nvidia
Here’s where things stand now comparing both Nvidia’s RTX series and AMD’s new cards:
Model | Price |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super | $499 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 | $499 |
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition |
$449* |
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT |
$399* |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super | $399 |
AMD Radeon RX 5700 | $349* |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 | $349 |
Ideally, AMD’s RX 5700 should perform better than or equal to RTX 2060 Super, with same being true for the 5700XT and the 2070 Super.
This would mean that you can get a cheaper alternative to the new Super cards with AMD’s 5700 GPUs, as you’re getting more value out of them, and you can pay more to get the raytracing goodness on the Nvidia cards if you want, everyone wins.
We’ll know how things stand next week.
They don’t have any answer for Nvidia so, they just drop the price.
They have the answer, right now they are tackling rtx 2070 super ! that’s why this is the best move.
If leaked benchmarks are true, AMD’s 5700XT would be similar in performance to Nvidia’s 2070 Super, and that too at $400 vs $500 for the 2070.
That’s not having an answer, that’s beating Nvidia outright.
