Eyesore Sculpture of Benazir Bhutto Removed from Quetta’s Benazir Park

PPP workers gathered together to remove the sculpture after a public uproar.

The picture of the sculpture of the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto stirred up the internet for all the wrong reasons. People expressed displeasure for it and stated that the artist has messed it up so badly that it looked hideous.

Netizens also mentioned that the authorities should remove the statue as soon as possible because it is a mockery of Pakistan’s former head of state.

After the public uproar over the removal of the statue, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers gathered at Quetta Park today for the act.

The video of the tearing down of the offensive sculpture has gone went viral:

PPP Balochistan’s Provincial Secretary of Information, Sarbuland Jogezai, said that the government had to review its quality and formation before installing it at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto park. The people involved in installing sub-standard statues should be identified and action should be taken against them, he added.

The Secretary also announced the installation of a new statue of the Late Benazir Bhutto in Quetta Park.

This is not the first time that Pakistan’s national leaders were given such hideous looks in statues, which become a subject of ridicule instead of a source of pride.

A few months ago, a statue of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was ,in Bahria Town, Lahore, which looked more like an evil vampire.

Last February, a large sculpture of the national poet, Allama Mohammad Iqbal, that was made by a gardener, was installed at a park in Lahore. However, it drew so much criticism that it was later removed from the park as well.
