Adnan Siddiqui Schools Priyanka Chopra Over Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Nationality

The actor reminded the Indian actress that the first female to direct Star Wars is a Pakistani.

Popular actor Adnan Siddiqui schooled Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra after the Indian actress congratulated Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as the first South Asian director for the upcoming Star Wars film.

In a tweet, Siddiqui pointed out that Obaid-Chinoy is first and foremost a Pakistani and suggested Chopra should “brush up” on her knowledge. He also drew a comparison to the way Chopra often emphasizes her Indian nationality.

Siddiqui’s response was praised by netizens for highlighting the importance of acknowledging and respecting cultural identities.

The Yalghaar star took to Twitter to call out the Bollywood actress. He tweeted,

With due respect, Priyanka Chopra, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is a Pakistani first just to brush up your knowledge. Much like the way you flaunt your Indian nationality whenever you get the opportunity before claiming to be a South Asian.

Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been tapped to helm a new Star Wars film with Damon Lindelof and an additional co-writer. She becomes the first woman and the first person of color to direct a Star Wars film.

The movie is being hyped as the first major big-screen release for Lucasfilm after 2019’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. According to the sources, the Lucasfilm project is currently in the scripting stage.

As Star Wars projects continue to be one of the most guarded secrets of Hollywood, the content and focus of the upcoming project have been kept well under wraps.
