Thanks to USF, Wateen telecom is offering WiMAX broadband services at discounted rates for students in selected cities.

This discount is offered exclusively for students in following cities:

Okara
Sargodha
Abbottabad
Gujrat
Sialkot
Sheikhupura
Sahiwal

Student of these cities can get discount on Wateen services by simply presenting their School, college, University identity at Wateen Franchises.

Discounted Wateen Rates for Students are as following:

256 Kbps – Unlimited Volume for Rs. 839
512 Kbps – Unlimited Volume for Rs. 909
1 Mbps – 1 GB Limit for Rs. 299
1 Mbps – Unlimited Volume for Rs. 979

It merits mentioning here that these cities were offered subsidy by USF (see map above) – where it is mandatory for broadband operators to achieve a target number of customers to start receiving the subsidy grants from USF. As it is apparent from the map that USF has plans to stretch its subsidy for broadband to other under-served cities of Pakistan as well.

The wateen sales officer in abbottabad told me on phone that this offer was a “special package” for the residents of atd and mentioned nothing about students, infact he told me that you have to be a resident of atd otherwise what i could do ( being a boarder) is to register my connection in the name of a day scholar friend(who has an atd nic).furthermore he told me that i cannot convert my existing package into this new one( wont be of any use anyway tho). Obviously wateen needs to straighten up their dumbass salesmen like the one whom i talked to

Oh Well, well hold on you guys. This promo is on for the last of 1.5 year. Once you buy it from one city and use it in other one following problems occur.
1) WATEEN Never provide any phone support to it’s roaming users. So once you stuck means end of game.
2) No physical support guy’s visit will be made except registered address of the customer which was provided at the time of registration.

In NESTLE endeavor to “Put Pakistan on the International Telecommunication Map and to establish it as the leading Regional Transit Telecom and Media Hub” Wateen Telecom started the roll out of NESTLE own OFC Transmission Network (24 fibers, Hybrid G652/G655) covering the entire length and breadth of Pakistan. THE WIMAX TECHNOLOGY

    the student package is actually subsidized by USF which is an NGO sorta organization, that means that wateen is getting the full money from each user as they are getting from the users in other cities but in these 7 cities the customer pays 840 and the remaining is paid by USF, USF is mainly focussing on small cities where no cheap soure of internet is available, not the big cities

Rehan if you buy the normal package you can use the roaming facility in all the cities where wateen wimax is available, but if you buy the discounted student package then you can’t avail roaming in any city

these all ……the small cities offers that’s not good offer limited user of isdn/DSL in these cities so Wateen need to brings there discount packages in big cities where a large amount of users using Dsl or internet to bring there product upward no doubt great services great transfer rate

I am using USF unlimited 1 MB package and that cost me 850/Month.

Now I am in Faisalabad and I am using same package (i.e; USF 1MB Unlimited).

According to Wateen resources, Faisalabad is in commercial list (Not in USF supported list) so IF I want to use Wateen Internet services here then I have to change from USF to Commercial packages. They also said that My Wateen MAC address is not binded with USF Cities list but It should be…
