Ride Sharing Platform Tripda Raises $11 million Series A Funding

Tripda, the global carpooling community that launched its operations in Pakistan in December 2014, has today announced an $11 million Series A funding round by Rocket Internet and other investors.

Tripda plans to use the new round of funding to expand its global operations and grow its user base across the 13 countries where it operates, as well as continuing to develop its web and mobile app for multiple markets.

Pedro Meduna, co-founder and CEO of Tripda, said:

“We are very grateful for the continued confidence of Rocket Internet and the backing by a prominent New-York based investor. The investment is a clear recognition of our leading regional footprint and an affirmation of the growth strategy and potential of our business. It provides us with the strategic flexibility to further grow our community by connecting even more long-distance travelers going the same way.”

Ahmed Usman, Country Manager of Tripda Pakistan:

“This funding provides us with additional capital to strengthen our operations in Pakistan and grow our community. We are excited to move forward in adding value to the lives of our users in Pakistan by offering them an innovative carpooling solution.”

The company connects people who need rides with people who have empty car seats, fills the important long-distance (often intercity) travel market as a perfect alternative to buses, trains and short flights.

Passengers and drivers can set personal travel preferences, exchange messages and mutually filter travel partners taking similar journeys.

Available through web and mobile app platforms for iOS and Android, Tripda verifies drivers and passengers to ensure security, safeguards user privacy, and even offers a “Ladies Only” option for women seeking all-female rides.

  • What I can’t understand is if they are raising this much fund then why they are using these cheap tactics for promotions ?
