3 weeks back we reported about PTCL’s this package, in which it would offer unlimited PTCL to PTCL and PTCL to Vfone calls, local and nationwide, bundled with Broadband, primarily aiming home users only.
Now, we are reported (by at least 2 ProPakistani readers) that PTCL is secretly offering this package to its selected customers. Our readers got calls at their PTCL numbers from PTCL call center, offering them to convert their PTCL Number to unlimited package.
We are also told that this package is named as “PTCL Unlimited Double Play Package”
Tariffs are as following
Unlimited On Net Calls + 1 MB Broadband = Monthly Rental Rs. 1,999
Unlimited On Net Calls + 2 MB Broadband = Monthly Rental Rs. 2,999
Unlimited On Net Calls + 4 MB Broadband = Monthly Rental Rs. 5,999
On Net Calls Means: PTCL to PTCL, PTCL to Vfone, local and nation wide – Customers will have to get both Broadband and Landline Package.
Currently, PTCL has been offering 1 MB broadband connection for Rs. 1,200, meaning that customers will have to pay only Rs. 799 for unlimited PTCL to PTCL and PTCL to Vfone calls (including local and nationwide calls).
Question: Why PTCL is not putting this offer open for everyone?
My anticipation is (I can be totally wrong by the way) that PTCL was ordered by PTA to not to public this package, or advertise it, for a reason that PTCL is SMP (Significant Market Player) both in Landline and in Broadband, thus this package will prove to be anti competitive for the industry. (Again, this is my personal thought, and does not include viewpoint of PTCL and or PTA, we are trying to contact PTCL to know its version)

You can try your luck by calling 1236 or other PTCL help lines to get this package activated

Eventually this would come out in the open. And what about those on Student DSL package, which is 30% lower than normal package. If they also have to pay Rs. 800 extra, then maybe 1 MB student + unlimited calls will cost around Rs. 1650/month which I think will be quite useful for most people (provided that Quality of Services is maintained).

This sounds totally awesome. If PTA can let Ufone provide Ghanta Offer package then I guess this package will also be made public soon. And I’m totally supporting and looking forward to this package.
PTCL is going to launch the package on upcoming Eid as per my information.

I have confirmed from PTCL. Student package is only for DSL service. There is no tariff chagne in Double Play Package for students.
I think whatever cheap price services they offer it will not pay any benefit until-unless they maintain quality of service, so its useless

I called on PTCL helpline and was told that I may call in after 15th Sep to activate this package. I guess PTCL is waiting for Eid before launching the package big time….to add in their bit of eid festivity.
It’s not secret. I called 1236 and the CSR told me that from 15th they will be taking orders directly. Right now they are approaching the DSL subs to market and note orders. I am impressed at the way they are launching this package….appears to be very exciting. PTCL is finally making us feel the difference and that to in a style that befits the size and stature of PTCL.
My friend in PTA told me that the package is approved and their is no secrecy around it. He had no info why this package is being launched in steps.
But the student DSL package users will not be excited at all if indeed the package wont apply for them. But I still hope that they do provide a package for those users since they claim to be a customer friendly company and I think about half of PTCL’s DSL users are on student package.
what about the lucky draw scheme for getting DSL connection before 14th august … any idea when that draw is going to take place – becaues PTCL seems to have totally forgotten about it!

As per my info student package customers will not qualify for dis package..
I don’t know what ptcl plans to do about it but my gut feeling is that through this package they intend to lure the older generation for who unlimited voice has been a dream and who may have found dsl to be an expensive proposition otherwise.
So let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what ptcl has to say. I wonder if they intend to answer these queries or would like all of us to keep wondering?
I think the big question is whether this package can play a role in increase in uptake of broadband services in Pakistan that is abysmal due to low literacy and least economic utilization of internet.
PTCL has a few million telephone connections and i think broadband subs are not even a million in Pakistan.So it will be worthwhile to see if this Package can help Pakistan achieve its million broadband subscribers within the next 1-2 years?
Well, PTCL is currently on its SoftLaunch phase of the bundled package, which companies usually do. This sounds like a great package.
Rs.1,999 includes your 1MB unlimited Internet which PTCL offers for 1,200, the package is also inclusive of line rent so really for a very small amount users are getting unlimited local and nationwide calls. Unlimited local calls are something we were always waiting for.
if these rates r inclusive of all taxes then i think they r reasonable other wise not………. incld. taxes it would b around 2400 to 2500….. if u just take 1mbps broadband rate 1 Mbps rate is almost 1200rs offered by all companies( micronet, link dotnet) including all taxes on the other hand ptcl after charging 1200rs they also impose 19.5% tax on it which is 235/- rs so a total sum of 1435/-
Omer as per knowledge PTA has a policy that no Broadband service provider will charge any tax on DSL (to promote IT and all that)…a friend has booked an order with PTCL for the package and he has been communicated the same by PTCL CC. So the total tax that will be charged on this (for 1 Mbps data speed) is 156.You can say that one will be paying 1999+156 for getting Unlimited calls and Broadband.
i must say ptcl is looking like the best company to me now … with their current rates and the prospect of them offering double speeds at the same rates .. all i can say is wow

I believe there is no tax on broadband so ptcl and other dsl/broadband operators are at par on this account
by the way I called 1236 and they told me to call them tomorrow to opt in for the unlimited package…So Aamir Atta bhai you need to post a third blog that ptcl’s package is out in the market and hopefuly they will be marketing it soon :)
A UK call on V phone was charged @ Rs: 25/- per minute.
A Call on Government numbers commencing with 9 was charged @ 3.25/- per minute.

Allright guys, here is the update
I called 1236 from karachi, and yes that unlimited package is available for me to be converted. Few points to note (that I would suggest to be edited and updated into article).
1-This is not available to student package.
2-Taxes are excluded (that would be almost Rs.2400 including taxes)
for those having student package, they have to convert to the normal package first before availing this unlimited on net calls offer.

I am certainly going to get this package as it will keep my mom and aunt happy over making unlimitedcalls while i can use internet as much as i want…. so are you guys sure this package will be launched on eid? I guess i should call 1236

I have been told that for 1 Mbps connection FED will be Rs. 156 and for higher packages it will be Rs. 195
So the taxes are not as high….perhaps info will be clear on 1236 shortly.
PTCL should not charge on portion of package price that equates the notional value of the DSL package
For student package the conversion is simple. You just get converted to the unlimited package @ 1999 Rs.

I want to inform all readers that never respond to offers , presented verbally through tele calls. We were asked to accept mobile phone package @ Rs.500 for unlimited mobile calls. They clearly quoted the amount of our mobile call charges referring that your mobile call charges are more than Rs.500 per month so it is surely suitable for you. We accepted the offer and used PTCL for mobile phone without any fear of extra charges. What happened? We received five times higher charges for our mobile calls (Rs.2452.50) plus double up charges Rs.2499.00 instead of previous 1199 for DSL. Trying to solve the problem but the proof of offer is not in our hand. Lesson learned- Don’t listen telephonic offers whether it is for PTCL or any Credit Card provider. No facility is to facilitate users. it is only business activity.

I have been offered the free local/nwd with DSL internet @PKR 2000/00 PM. They are also offereing smart TV with internet. Permonth charges are ok but the down payment for their smart tv gadgets will discourage customers- so I told their sales fellow
I received call from PTCL , She started telling me benefits of wired network, then I told her that I dont have landline , she asked me to get new line, I told her tht my neighbour is unhappy with performance with ptcl, she asked neighbour number . It’s always difficult to say NO , but that NO can make your life easy.
