Super Cheap Android One Smartphones to Hit Pakistan Early Next Year

spice-android-one

Android One Phone – Google’s dedicated project for manufacturing Android smartphones for emerging markets – is reportedly going to reach Pakistan by early next year.

The announcement was made after Google unveiled its first Android One phone in India yesterday.

Priced at just USD 105, Android One’s hardware and software is designed by Google, however, it partnered with three Indian phone makers namely Micromax, Karbonn and Spice to realize the phone. Google will also partner with Bharti Airtel to offer specially tailored data plans for Android One phones.

While we don’t have confirmations, but considering the similarities between QMobile and Micromax, Android One may be distributed in Pakistan through QMobile. Not to mention, Lenovo – which is now present in Pakistan – is also a Android One vendor. And furthermore HTC is also an Android One partner.

Google said:

“We expect to see even more high-quality, affordable devices with different screen sizes, colors, hardware configurations and customized software experiences.

Finally, we plan to expand the Android One program to Indonesia, the Philippines and South Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) by the end of the year, with more countries to follow in 2015.”

About the specifications of the phone, Google is regulating the hardware design and specs. All three phone manufactures in India are producing similar phones with below specs:

  • 4.5-inch screen
  • Quad-core Mediatek SoC
  • Micro SD slot
  • Dual-SIM compatibility
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 4GB of internal storage
  • Expandable storage support via microSD card up to 32GB
  • 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash
  • 2-megapixel front camera
  • Wi-Fi, 3G
  • 1700mAh battery.

Android One phones will run the latest version (4.4 KitKat) and will automatically get the upgrades as Google itself will manage OTA updates for Android One devices.

Android One, with above specs, at around Rs. 10,500 will be a super deal for those who want a reasonable Android experience at an affordable price. While we know that 1GB devices with Quad-Core processors are very much possible in this price range, timely OTA software upgrades are enough to charm the Android One users.

    It’s a Qmobile killer!

    • Zaim

This is very much likely that QMobile, Haier, and Voice will be selected by Google for AndroidOne software experience.

      • Muhammad Aamir

Every mobile phone company that advertises on TV will not be selected for AOS experience .’D

        • While I’m reading this it seems Q Mobile has just release the first phone of Android One Series, Here is the link.

P.S I’ve landed to this post when searching for Android one after watching the above video!

by the time it reaches the market, the dollar rate will be more than 100 so it cant be sold at 10,500. the price will be around 12-13K which is almost the same as Qmobiles with same or little bit higher specs.

    • hammad

      but q-mobile are not kitkat

      • Bilal Iqbal

i7 with kit kat … Released August.. same specs.. with 8 G Rom

    • ScarletCrimson

You expect good “specs” at this price point? Stop trolling about the “specs” crap. For you and all the people who are missing the whole point behind Android One: Google is partnering with hardware makers to produce cheap phones under Android One program. Hardware makers will produce a smartphones according to guidelines and specifications from Google. Google will then take over the software updates for the said phones for 2+ years. Which means they’ll see the latest Android updates directly from Google with minimal to no delay (similar to Google Play Edition and/or Nexus devices). Qmobile can’t even dream about competing with that (besides, they’ll likely partner with Google anyways). Even major OEMs like Samsung don’t provide stable software updates for their flagship phones (costing 50k+) for 2+ years.

i hope q mobile will stop using crap hardware with the arrival of phones like this one

  • Muhammad Ashraf

Rs 10500 is not cheapest phone in Pakistani market right now as new android phones are available as low as Rs. 6000

    • Ameer Hamza

      Not with 1 Gb ram

  • Yasir Mahmood

    UFones new Phone is Better
and BTW Untill next year It Wont be Expected to be Cheapest

  • Ubaid AHmed

NOhting can beat ufone 6K with Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and 400MHz Adreno 305 (only issue is having 512RAM). Well, probabaly 12K super cheap Quad-core Mediatek SoC is not going to do well among masses, if Ufone announces 1GB RAM mobile with Snapdragon 200 chipset for 8K. Google will be trolled. :D

    • Ali Hafeez Azmat

And what about Dual Sim & screen state being 4.5″. Ufone shall upgrade till KitKat. And Google phones shall as KitKat or Lion

  • Bilal Aahil

Android One is already launched in India, according to google they are going to make them available in Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka by end of this year.. and yes these phones are going to kick Qmobile in the teeth at least in Pakistan

    • AK Mustehsan

IT IS probably going to be launched with QMobile and fewer more local companies. Android One is just a initiative similar to Google Play Edition devices, it’ll make these entry-level smartphones to have no laggy or buggy performance and will receive updates directly from Google for 2+ years.

  • Taha Najam

The Mediatek processor is that spec sheet is the deal breaker. But competition is good. Now that Microsoft has committed to even cheaper Windows Phones, as low as Rs.4000, I’m excited to see where this all goes. Pretty soon dumbphones will be a thing of the past and everyone will be sporting a smartphone.

  • Abu Zaid

Very good move by Google to capture the Emerging markets of South Asia. I have spent over 50k on high end phones, and after 2 years they become thing of past when new models with half the price and better specs become available. Something around 10-12k is affordable for many, even if you have to dispose if after 2 years. Much better then the S series by Samsung which costs over 40k for 2 year old models.

  • Saad Naeem

To the guys who are comparing android one with Q-Mobile:
These devices are more powerful and they will get software updates like nexus devises, the latest and greatest of android and even the android L as it releases.

    • hamza kazmi

to everyone who is saying that android one phones will be faster then qmobiles o jahil logo android one are also mediatek mtk6582 nd qmobiles quadcore series have the same specs.but android one has advantange cuz of timely updates and having source code so we can make custom roms

      • Hassam

OS optimization matters alot so calling someone jahil is not a good thing to do when you don’t have enough knowledge, yes Android one devices will be faster more snappier (in same mobile category ) with no bloat ware and direct updates/patches from google with good optimized coding to get the best result on specific hardware.

Aik cheez he qmobile nay logo sekhae ha, ye bari screen quad core processor ke sath.

    OTA
An over-the-air update (OTA) may refer simply to a software update that is distributed over Wi-Fi or mobile broadband using a function built into the operating system
