Samsung Unveils Midrange J7 Duo With Dual Cameras

Samsung has officially launched a premium-looking midrange, Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo, which is expected to hit the markets soon.

Unlike recent midrangers, Galaxy J7 Duo does not seem to follow the bezel-less display trend, however, it does have a dual-cam which was previously only present in Samsung’s flagships such as Note 8 and Galaxy S9+.

Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo’s design language is quite similar to its premium siblings – the rear end looks much like a Samsung Galaxy S9+ with no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Samsung decided to go with their classic home button+capacitive key combo instead of on-screen navigational buttons like their recent smartphones. A fingerprint sensor is available – its mounted on the front underneath the home button.

It does not sport a bezel-less tall 18:9 display, however, it does have a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED with HD (720p) resolution. The screen-to-body ratio is around 70% and pixel density is close to 260 ppi.

Hardware & Storage

Underneath, the Galaxy J7 Duo is powered by Samsung’s home-bred octa-core Exynos 7870 Octa processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. A decent Mali-T830 MP1 works in the graphics department. It does not come with different storage/RAM options and the only RAM size available is 4 GB. Though a dual-sim option is available.

Moreover, the internal storage capacity is 32 GB which can be expanded by up to 256 GB using Galaxy J7’s dedicated microSD slot.

Camera & Software

Galaxy J7 Duo is among the first Samsung smartphones to have a dual-cam setup and comes with a 13 MP+ 5 MP pair. The primary shooter is the 13 MP sensor and the other one allows enhanced depth sensing. The front camera is 8 MP and all three cameras have decently bright apertures of f/1.9. And just like before, both front and rear cameras have a LED flash.

Much like all recently launched devices, it will be powered by Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s TouchWiz Grace UX on top.

Battery, Price, & Availability

The battery is a 3,000 mAh unit which seems adequate for this screen resolution and chipset. There’s no fast charging support. As for its availability, it has only been launched in India so far but should become available in Pakistan too in the coming days.

The price tag is set at INR 16,990 (~PKR 30,000) and it will be available for purchase in India on 12th April in either Gold or Black colors.
