Vote for These Pakistani Startups in the SemiFinals of GIST’s Global Competition

Four Pakistani startups have managed to make their way to the Semi-Final stage for Global Innovation Through Science & Technology (GIST) Tech-I.

GIST Tech-I Competition is an annual competition for science and technology in which entrepreneurs from all over the world participate for the chance to showcase their venture and receive intensive training. It is a great platform aimed at bringing attention to bright ideas and not only reward them, but also give them a chance to flourish and put them to the test.

The competition is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative and has been implemented by the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 2014.

Pakistani Startups in GIST Tech-1 Semi-Finals

This year, more than 500 innovators from emerging economies worldwide submitted their ideas or startups to GIST Tech-I.

A total of 80 startups have been selected for the Semi-Final public voting stage, out of which 24 will be selected for an all-expense paid trip to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Bahrain to showcase their venture and to receive intensive training.

GIST Tech-I winners, selected by experts at GEC, win prizes, and receive one-on-one mentorship and training. The winners will also compete for seed capital prizes at the 2019 Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Bahrain, April 15-18, 2019.

There are four Pakistani startups that have made it to this stage. AzaadHealth, which has already been making waves as a prominent health-focused startup working on an online healthcare platform, and ConnectHear, a social entrepreneurial startup that wants to change the lives of the deaf and mute people in Pakistan and held Pakistan’s first-ever deaf-inclusive concert, are among the semi-finalists.

AzaadHealth is on a mission to prevent death and suffering caused by medical errors. Lack of verifiable patient health information is the main cause of medical errors which prevents doctors from seeing the complete picture about a patient’s health.

ConnectHear provides services that help bridge the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing population of Pakistan. They’re currently researching methodologies based on Computer Vision to automate as much of the interpretation process as possible.

How to vote?

  1. Head over to GIST’s website.
  2. Fill out the form and Create a New Account.
  3. Check your email and click the confirmation link.
  4. Now go to GIST’s voting portal.
  5. Search for your favorite startup and click on VOTE.

Note: You can vote for more than one startup at a time just check the boxes above their videos and then click “Batch Vote” at the top of this page.

As of now, a little over 35 thousand votes have been cast but there are still 15 days left to send in your votes. Do keep in mind that you can vote again after 24 hours. Once you have voted, just wait for 24 hours and the system will automatically update in order to allow you to vote again.
